If Piper's work manages, even for an instant, to expose the bare singularity, the common impropriety, that binds us beyond identification, and if it does so for potentially any viewer, then it can be understood as a form of resistance to the principle informing today's technologized racism: the notion that human beings can (and should) be classified through categories of social visibility. Such resistance takes shape not as an external struggle by an oppressed group, but rather as a collective individuation rooted in the exposure of the affective basis of life, the excess of bodily life in relation to itself.
