My home institution then, the Research School of Social Sciences at the Australian National University, allowed me to devote myself to this project. I am grateful to them all. Emily Rose worked as a brilliant researcher on that project. Some of this research is reported here in chapters 4 and 6. I thank Paul for enriching conversations about the interface between media research and science and technology studies. I would like to credit Philip Sayer for the photographs that appear in the book.\n\nPerhaps inevitably, I have to report that the writing of this book was not accelerated by digitalization. Some old and newer friends who have patiently encouraged me in this project need mentioning: Lynn Jamieson, Donald MacKenzie, Lucy Suchman, Ingrid Erikson, Martha Poon, and Tony Giddens. Jenny Earle’s wonderful style is, I hope, evident in some of the writing, and finally, I am delighted to acknowledge my son, Samuel Earle, who never seems pressed for time.\n\nAcknowledgments\n\nx","previous_page":9,"next_page":11}
