In any case, the current debates between historians over MEMORIAL LAWS, codified bills dedicated to the memory of specific victims of historic crimes, clearly point to the damage done by 'progress' regarding the no tion of historical an teriority and i ts great narratives, which are in the pro cess of disappearing. What is rising to the fore in their stead is what certain people are already calling the 'great national novel' .

S o , what we are now seeing, after the topographic and geometric efraction of distances, is the anachronistic efraction of the time intervals required for efective knowledge as well as for memory of the facts. FRACTALIZATION of physical expanse is coupled with fractalization of d urations relative to the CONTIN UUM of a general H istory that's in the process of being instantaneously obliterated.

Let's hear what Wi nston Church ill had to say on the subj ect, when he addressed the H ouse of Commons on 13 M ay 1940. If a battle between past and present is allowed to b reak out, Churchill sai d , there w i l l b e ' n o su rvival fo r t h e u rge a n d impulse of the ages, that manki nd will move forward towa rds its goal ' . 1 I n other words, we'll lose the future .

W e know what came next: G reat B ritain a s a space did not sufer the insult of occupation, but only because the B ritish leaders avo ided a chronopolitical battle over the TEM PO of the B attle o f B ritain.

Th at was an odd lesson i n hi story ; b ut it was also a lesson in geopol itics, in which the perspective of the C H RO N IC temporali ty of events was undefeated by the prospect of the panicky instantaneity b eh i n d a ' fu turism ' whose fascist origins were all too o bvio us, starting with M arinetti' s tracts celeb rating the G reat War as ' the wo rl d ' s hygiene' . The cult o f the acceleration of history ended app rop riately enough fo r the fu tu ri sts in the B l itz, that lightning war of the failed i nvasi on o f the sky as well as o f the B ritish I sles.

As for us, if in the near fu ture we let som e M useum of the H istory of F rance settle permanently, whether i n Paris or somewhere else, we will very swiftly fi nd ourselves occupied - and extremely preoccupied . . . M aybe we are already.

Everyone knows that time is revealed and then revolves, is gone. The REVOLUTIONARY of bygo ne days is now about to be eliminated by the revelationary fo recaster, the REVEALER of postmodern times.

Apropos the ' system i c crisis' i n the T EM PO of the stock market and in the future of an illusion, that o f getting the world economy back of the ground, some people are already flagging the alarm ing development of distortion of competition fo r si ngle-market tu rbocap ital ism . And it's happen ing right where the dromologist would insist on the term ANAM O RPHOSIS for the temporal i ty of the i nstant , as most clearly descri b ing thi s financial fas:ade that can no longer be seen except by watching images on STOCK EXCHANGE screens, and, then, only fro m a particular angle: that o f the cu rved distorti ng mirror of the rou ndness of the te rrestrial gl obe - in other wo rds, the continuum of an accelerating 'globalization o f afects' by traders operating in a market that ' s now, once and for all , i nterconnected thro ugh PROG RAM TRADING, through the synchronization of an interactivity that makes a whole new kind of insider trading possible.

Let's be clear about this eccentric angle on the wo rld economy. I n the last quarter of last century, the City of London launched market i nterconnection, the B I G BANG of program trading, so aptly named . That was to lead, as early as 1 987, to an inaugural crash implicating the real-time co mpu terization of trading. Twenty years later, with the bursting of the sub prime real-estate bub ble in the U n ited S tates i n 200 7 , it is the flash tradi ng involved i n high-frequency exchanges that has been stigmatized by the Secu rities and Exch ange Comm ission (S EC) , the Wal l Street watchdog, considering the accruing risks of a new ki nd of i n sider tradi ng. F o r, distortion o f competition now resides in the instantaneity of m il liseco nds in a stock market NANOC H RONOLOGY that escapes market control - this, smack b ang i n the m i ddle of the credit crunch and massive loss of i nvestor confidence .

B IG BANG , BIG CRUNC H . I n the absence of any true pol itical economy of speed, one dealing with the wealth of the developed nations, these events lead to a relativist felony, an extremely serious distortion of competition in a market that is no l o nger singl e i n the real time of stock market exchanges, even if it remains single in the real space o f the global ization of profits. The capacity of a few big banks to engage in flash orders, using computi ng power analogo us to the power of nuclear deterrence in the hands of the top b rass o f the m i l itary, calls i nto questi on the very basis of free co mpetition in a turb ocapitalism clearly nearing its end .

Th is, I think, explains the importance of the term ANAM O RP H O S IS in relation to temporal i ty and to the sudden tempo ral compression of financial data before the curvature , the distorting m i rror, of the continu um of an econo mic history that resides today in the astro nomical TEM PO of an instantaneity and an in teractivi ty that once and for all spurn the old laws of a competitive market where the felony of insider trading, perpetrated by cheats, was still com m i tted wi thi n the common historical TEM PO of the chronology of days, hours and seconds - not wi thin the NANOCH RONOLOGY of nanoseconds, pi coseco nds or femtoseco nds of an ' i nformation b o m b ' that is cu rrently i n the p rocess o f exploding before our very eyes.

H ere, the anamo rphosis of free trade is produced by the anachro nism of this sudden fu tu rism of a real i nstant that expl oits the cri m inal operation o f digital systems and their deviant ' m athematical modell ing' , willy nilly. And does so at the risk, this time, o f exh austing con fidence, the speculative faith of sh rewd investors and shareholders, along with credit, in a B IG CREDIT CRUNCH (fixed property-based or other) , since, as we all know, confidence can't be instantaneous or automatic.

Hence the major risk of a choc de Ia confiance, a 'crash of confidence' , as devastating as the choc des civilisations, the cl ash of civil izatio ns, with the ATH EI S M of the free th inker suddenly turning into an athe ism of free trade, in the age of banks that are too big to fail , b u t , esp ec i ally, too sw i ft to be honest!

Ultimately, this disastrous situat i o n o ught to cause us to wonder abo ut the nature of a new i nertia: the i n ertia of Time, of the real i nstant and of the interactivity involved in the transactions that take place withi n the S ingle M arket, foste ring the growing risk of a monopoly that would be damaging for all kinds of exchanges. This would be a MONO POLY OF DISBELIEF and of an ' atheism ' i n which the loss o f specul ative faith would m o st likely end i n a so rt of M ON O -AT H EISM of the Single M arket that would be analogous in its evocative power to the M ONOTH EISM of religions, of the single G od o f j usti ce and truth .

S o , that would b e i t , the ' syste m ic' risk, the i ntegral accident in h igh-frequency speculation, where the inertia o f real time would take over from the real-space inertia o f settlement accordi ng to the nations' emploi du temps, their scheduling of time - timetables - in the several-thousandyear-old era of the sedentary homebody.

Let me j ust su m m arize : if the emploi du temps, the timetab le, behi nd historical chronologies, the tripartite division past-p rese nt-future , were to completely disappear, overtaken by the accident of an overwhelmingly anach ron istic i nstant,

THE GREAT ACCELERATOR

then the NANOTECHNOLOG IES of futurist instantaneity would soon lead to loss of memory and abandonment of H istory's credibility to the detri ment of all co nfidence in the future. The contemporary world of the globalized S ingle Market would then end in a POLAR IN ERTIA of unequalled atemporary passivity, an i nertia of the real i nstant . And that i n ertia would , th i s time, totally shatter t h e n o t i o n o f t h e duration and sedentary stab ility of planetary settlement, since the inertia of the i nt e ractive instant would soo n completely o utdo the fixed-property i nertia of activity in the real space of hu manity's routine d a i l y l i fe .

A s for the geographic and, so, ' spatial ' aspect of th is development, seen thro ugh the anamorphosis in competition mentioned above, i t would be flagged by loss of confidence in the notion of Progress and by the overwhelmi ng prevalence of delocalization of production - but also of research and development . For, U RBAN EXODUS, in t h e twenty- first centu ry, will o ne day reproduce the agony of RURAL EXO D US , in the age of the industrial revol ution in transpo rt and lead to the headlong rush - only, in closed circuit- of a general exodus of humanity.

Last century, F rench Air Force general , Lionel M ax Chassin, declared : 'The fact that the Earth is round has not yet been taken into account by the m i l i tary . ' It seems that today's economists and fi nanci ers of the Si ngle Market still refuse serio usly to entertain that fact, certain of them even asserting that progress in communications has made the worl d perfectly Bat, 1 like some multimodal logistical platform! H oodwinked by the reality efect of accelerating profits, the speculators of the moment are so mesmerized by STOC K EXCHAN G E screens, they apparently don't notice the deformation of values caused by the cu rved mirror of stock trades in the age of globalization and, so, the 'astronom ical nature of this sudden time comp ressi on that, of course, allows them to make highly impressive p rofits. B u t only at the cost of more and more fragile ' b ub bles' that will soon produce the SYSTEMIC CRAS H of turbocapitalism and, more than anyth ing else, the SECURALISM of speculato rs who will no longer be able to have confidence in the future of the illusion o f progress o r to expect the l atest software to deliver the miracles p romised by the mathematical modelling used by a market subj ect to the excessive speeds o f hyperactive flash tradi ng. The relat ivist felonies co mmi tted by the in sider traders involved in h igh-frequency electronic exchanges will suddenly put the brakes on the hyperl iberal ism of the G reat Casi no, quite as if the speeding-train efect of h igh finance escaped traders and, especially, the N abel Prize winners in econom ics - apparently unlike the planners who laid o ut the railways - as though the insecurity of H i story wasn 't bound, some day, to fatally meet head-o n the insecurity of the territories i nvolved in the nations' emploi du temps - our timetables!

Actually, the vi rtual G reat Casino of the th i rd millenni u m looks a lot like those geostati onary satell i tes in o r b i t above so me local i ty or other and whose fixed-property i nertia is said to be geosynch ronous in terms of the vertical ity of a given PLACE, whereas the polar inertia of the financial casino is CH RONOSYNCH RONOUS with every place on the globe thanks to i ts mstantaneous mteracuve connections.

So, though it may be single in the real space of geography, the global ized market is no longer single in the real time o f trades i nvolved i n the Rash trading perpetrated by the insiders of the ' B ig N ight' of the Srock Exchange . The abovementio ned disto rtion o f competition created by hypervelocity will suddenly trigger the transm u tati o n of cap italism, or, m o re p recisely, the phase transition of the turbocapitalism of an overwhelm i ngly critical instant . F o r, t raders who are fans of Rash orders will, this t i m e, trigge r the accident to end all accidents of a stock market tempo that is now AUTOMATIC. The loss of awareness of all true d u ration will trigger the loss of confidence, the credit cru nch of the latest i nvestors, speculative faith having once and for all evaporated.
